Norman Wares

My interest in Marilyns began... when I was bagging Corbetts in 2012 and realised that there were many other interesting hills that could be bagged at the same time - non-Simm Marilyns.

My favourite Marilyn is... A'Mhaighdean, one of the remote Fisherfield peaks with fantastic views and a sense of achievement just being at the summit.

My least favourite Marilyn is... Airds Hill, which I climbed in March 2014 after a winter of strong winds, with much wind-blown timber to negotiate, and where exactly is the summit anyway? It is a stinker.

Do I keep Marilyn bagging a secret? No, happy to spread the message, especially when I give talks to local organisations about hillwalking.

I... became a navigator in car rallies at age 16, leading to a 20-year involvement with various forms of motor sport. This resulted in a lifelong love of maps and I have quite a large collection. For the last 30 years I have been involved in the winter sport of curling and I play regularly at local ice rinks.
