2014 was a year of getting very pissed off with the antics of the tamperers. Surely a line could be drawn so that Cicerone Press can republish RHB to help promote the cause? I lost three hills due to higher points being found some distance away from summits I had previously climbed.
Anyway, I had week-long trips to Ingleton, Huntly, Hadrian's Wall, Ballater and Slaidburn/Kettlewell. My 1000th Marilyn was Hill of Persie and my 1200th Hump was Hill of Mulderlie. Most memorable hill was Ailsa Craig at my third attempt - thanks to Rick Salter for organising. On the third attempt the sea was a millpond. Roll on St Kilda.
The Coyles of Muick is a lovely walk up through a forest and up to a very imposing granite tor of a summit. Far from the madding crowds doing Lochnagar. Later that same September day I did Craigendarroch. On the way up I was serenaded by a fine military band which was entertaining the pensioners in Ballater town square. The hill was made even more perfect by having a debate with one of the residents who assumed that I was casing his neighbour's house. Best to park in the town.
In 2015 I intend to visit Wales quite a lot.
