Donald Irvine: The map you used when you climbed Merrick all those years ago is not much use now for tackling Colt Hill and Wether Hill. Recent construction of forestry roads and planting of conifers have made these hills much more and much less accessible respectively.
Jimmy White: On Colt Hill, between the Southern Upland Way and the trig point, a recently-excavated gravel quarry, with wide approach roads, suggests a large wind farm soon. On the long and pathless approach to Wether Hill there was some seriously spongy long grass, with newly-planted forests to confound the walker looking for a direct route. However, a new estate road near Cornharrow Hill leads in a general westerly direction, allowing a quick descent to the prosperous Cornharrow Farm buildings, complete with wallabies in the front garden.
