My year in 2012 started on 12 January with my son and his partner on Burach, a big hill, one of only two of the eleven 600m hills which are not Grahams that I have climbed. Great all round views.
I then had four glorious days of weather at the end of March in the hills south of Edinburgh, climbing 15. Particularly memorable was the traverse of Trahenna, Penvalla and Broughton Heights with moor burning taking place all around. A quick dash up Conic Hill in May was fitted in during a visit to family home from Australia. Then a milestone on 14 September when I first climbed Birnam Hill, with superb views, followed by Moncreiffe Hill, my hundredth pure Marilyn. A pure Marilyn is one which is not a Munro, Corbett or Graham.
On 14 November I had a cold day with snow on Seana Mheallan but the views of Torridon from the summit were worth it. The views were even better on 18 December on Carn nan Iomairean, with snow on all the tops and fabulous views of the islands to the west.
My year finished when I met my son on his way up for a New Year visit and we climbed the Convals at Dufftown, nearly being blown away several times and with two heavy snow showers thrown in as well.
