Peter Cottam (615)

My interest in Marilyns began... because several friends were doing Marilyns whilst I was finishing off the Munros. They seemed like a good bad weather alternative to start with, but once I'd counted them (and counted them again and again to make sure) it was difficult to stop searching them out to be climbed as a worthy objective in their own right. As Alan Dawson points out, the height gain makes them all good viewpoints on those days when one is lucky enough to see anything from the top.

My favourite Marilyns are... the Skye Cuillin, the hills of Assynt, the Cairngorms and Buachaille Etive Mor. The Buachaille was my last Munro, via Curved Ridge, having done Stob na Broige on a previous day so that I could end on Stob Dearg. The Buachaille always lifts the spirits as I drive north on the A82.

My least favourite Marilyns... I have not yet found any Marilyns I've not enjoyed to some extent, although any that require access through a farmyard with dogs that are loose always cause me major concern.

Do I keep Marilyn bagging a secret? I don't keep Marilyn bagging a secret from anyone. Not everyone thinks I'm sane though.
