Having covered much of the eastern Southern Uplands in 2009, I headed to the western hills in 2010 - first to the Galloway hills to conquer Merrick and marvel at the night sky, and then to the Glenkens for Windy Standard. I spent much of that trip grazing the lush blaeberry bushes on its western flank. My highlights for 2010:
Ruadh Stac on Skye proved my trickiest climb, with a water-slide to cross on the route in from the north, and a near-vertical cleft forcing me down steep vegetation on my descent south. This left me following an almost dry river-bed between two high waterfalls. It is not a route I would recommend.
