'Reinhold and I had prepared ourselves most carefully for this bold venture. For the whole winter, and a part of the previous summer, I had trained in the Zillertal mountains. Every day I had exercised under the supervision of the Mayrhofen director. He spurred me on tirelessly. Again and again he urged me: 'You've got to move, you've got to move!' This 'You've got to move' was like an inner command. I drew strength from it. Even in a condition of complete exhaustion, this injunction drove me ever onwards.'
