Mad Bagger Award

Despite an unsuccessful attempt to present the mad bagger award at Weem in 2004, when one of the two nominees, Chris Upson, failed to turn up (having arranged a last-minute prior engagement), the concept lives on. It has now evolved into a readers' poll, and the nominees have grown from two to ten. To take part, simply use your skill and judgement to decide on the three maddest baggers from those below, and send your 1-2-3 votes to rhb@rhb.org.uk before 15 June 2005. Nominees and qualifications:

Gordon Adshead: Only known bagger of 600m contour rings.

Stuart Benn: Keen bagger of CTs and GTs but now eschews lower hills. Once refused to bag Burach, while working on the hill, because it was under 2000 feet. By three metres.

James Gordon: Bagged all Corbett Tops within three years of their publication. Then walked from Spain to Norway.

Dave Hewitt: Has climbed the same old hill well over 500 times, but hasn't bothered to finish the Murdos.

Brent Lynam: Did 24 and then 30 Marilyns in 24 hours. Attempted all E&W Hewitts and Marilyns in the same year.

Roderick Manson: Gives the impression of truly hating every minute he spends bagging. Apart from Canna.

Tony Payne: Raced to 1500 then moved to Southampton to maximise distance from remaining unbagged hills.

Chris Upson: Ran 24 linked Marilyns in 24 hours. All on foot. Once enticed his girlfriend up 19 in a weekend. In February.

Ken Whyte: Added 405 new Marilyns in a single year.

Rob Woodall: Voracious bagger junkie. See pages 4 and 34.
