Baglogs:

Ticking over: Bill Fairmaner

Some highlights:

Cairn William (21B): Rather fittingly, my 800th Scottish Marilyn.

Dun Leacainn (19A): It may lack height but it makes up for it in sheer aggression. The start was easy enough, up a forest road, but there followed a bash up through forest then heather at an angle rarely seen elsewhere. Grand views from the summit up and down Loch Fyne, despite the haze. Returned via a different route (the forest had been unpleasant), heading north to follow firebreaks back to the forest road. It was less prickly but very, very wet - up to knee level at times. I intend to revisit on a clearer day; it'll be worth it. Rather oddly, there is a rickety old bench on top, as though it were once a popular stroll for the locals.

Creag a'Ghobhair/Beinn Domhnaill (16D): My map didn't mark the forest on the latter, which made route-finding interesting. Nevertheless, the two hills gave a good run on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Amazing warm, sunny weather for March.

Boulsworth Hill (36): Surprisingly good, with somewhere to park, a path up the hill, rocks on top, a wide view, and I got back with dry feet - always a bonus in these parts.

Sighty Crag (33): Another hill I was slightly wary of and had been putting off, owing to its reputation and impression from the map. It turned out to be quite easy: a steady walk up the forest road from near Caldslop, followed by a short heather bash and an attractive final ridge.

An Sgurr (13B): An easy approach, up the path from the village. Where the path turned off right I headed straight on, up the scree into a narrowing chute topped by steep rock steps. Make that 'very steep'. Coming down required concentration and I was pleased to get onto the scree.

Ben Shieldaig (13B): Straight up the north ridge from the village, through steep heather and bands of rock, tackled head-on (almost). Exciting stuff, especially in fell shoes. Coming down I flanked off right onto easier and safer ground.

Ffridd Cocyn (30F): There being no obvious access to the hill, I opted for a dawn raid... in June. Great view of Bird Rock and Cadair Idris above the valley cloud.

Dinas (31C): Time to mention a Sub. Needing to stretch the legs after a fell race in the Brecon Beacons, I walked around the base of the hill before wandering up through the trees to the summit. A great little hill in impressive surroundings.

Kearnaval/Liuthaid (24A): A glorious day in October: calm and sunny, with superb views. Kearnaval was Marilyn number 1200.
