Mullach Coire a' Chuir
Mullach Coire a' Chuir, a 640m Submarilyn near Lochgoilhead

A Submarilyn is a hill in Britain of any height that has a drop of at least 140 metres but less than 150 metres on all sides, that is within ten metres of qualifying as a Marilyn. There were 206 Submarilyns at the end of 2015.

The Marilyns were first listed by Alan Dawson in The Relative Hills of Britain (RHB), published by Cicerone Press in April 1992. Submarilyns were not included in the book. The first list of Submarilyns was compiled in 1995. Details of those hills with 148m or 149m drop were published in the first RHB update in November 1995.

In 2009 Mark Jackson published More Relative Hills of Britain, which extended the Marilyn concept from 150m drop to 100m drop. Submarilyns are therefore Humps by definition (with the notable exception of Mow Cop).
