Not a bad year for bagging, with last year's total exceeded, albeit by just the one. I would like to say a huge thank you to all my new friends and one old one, in helping me to continue this bagging lark. I will mention no names, you know who you are.

Highlights of the year have to be the epic ascent of Bishop Wilton Wold in August, and the appointment of Martin O'Neill as the new Sunderland manager in December. Only joking with the former, of course. We could not even get to the top of Bishop Wilton Wold as it is now surrounded by a very high and spiky metal fence.

There were numerous pleasant weekends up north, together with three trips to Skye. Highlights include:

• My first solo bagging trip, staying at Inchbae lodge. Two Corbetts and one Graham in the bag.
• My first trip to the Alps, climbing numerous 3000m peaks.
• A fantastic week on Arran, despite a slight breeze and the odd raindrop or two. I particularly enjoyed climbing the four Corbetts on the sunny day of the week. I think I remember one member of the party having to go to work that day. What timing.
• A slightly chilly camping trek in Nepal over Christmas and New Year, with the added bonus of Giardia issues and altitude sickness. On a more positive note, wall to wall sunshine by day, stunning scenery and an excellent cook made up for my impromptu detox and colonic irrigation.

Targets this year are for Sunderland to secure a European place and for me to enter the Upper Hall. I wonder which will come first.
