Leaves five left

Richard Wood

I've finally finished all the Marilyns excepting the five monarchs of the western seas. St Kilda was a wonderful experience but I had to wait around to grab the opportunity. I think the finest view was from The Cambir along the western side. I had just enough time to examine the wreck of the crashed plane in Gleann Mor. There's supposed to be wreckage of another one on Soay; maybe next time. I did look at the close-up, side-on view of getting on to Soay, but there appears to be new rockfall at the critical place.

My last hills in England were Black Hill and Kinder Scout (grim places). Last in Wales was Stingwern Hill, where I was joined by Martin Collins. I don't think Martin likes the snow but he got plenty of that last year. One hill even had to be abandoned (Carn nan Tri-tighearnan, 9A) as when we got to the end of the track the shower became a wet snow blizzard. I am at present trying to get a photograph of every Marilyn, but I'm a long way short of that. I've done about half of them twice.
