We headed to the south-west in July to cycle round Cornwall and then to collect a few Marilyns. We picked up a hire car at Newquay Airport and went straight to Hensbarrow Beacon, amid the china clay spoil heaps. We then drove to Silverton and walked alongside a field to the summit of Christ Cross. We couldn't find the trig point - either it has gone or the hedge was hiding it. Another longish drive enabled us to bag Periton Hill. After a night in Porlock we managed a reasonable walk over Dunkery Beacon, then it was back to road as we headed for Cornwall again. Dartmoor took our fancy for a couple of days before we regained senses and added Kit Hill. Brown Willy came next and that just left us with Carnmenellis in order to complete this corner of England. We remember this for its gorse, brambles, barbed wire and bullocks, not to mention the adder that I almost stepped on. These seven, plus White Hill, and Ilkley Moor on Christmas Day, moved Frances on to 583, so we aim to get her into the Hall this year.
