Considering that 2008 was recorded as one of the wettest years on record for the UK, I was amazed to find, when studying my log, that I never encountered a wet day on any of the hills all year. Two trips to the Outer Hebrides enabled 29 additions, all in good conditions (easterly air stream). Now that the Scottish Government has slashed the vehicle ferry tariffs, I recommend taking advantage of this offer to bag some of these magnificent hills. Earlier in the year a milestone was achieved by spending time in Fife and the eastern Cairngorms to complete everything east of the A9. In July the 49 Marilyns on Skye were finally bagged. I finished the year enjoying some interesting hills around Hawes (35B). Best hill of the year: Eaval (24C). Worst: Creag Ghuibhais (7) - armpit heather!
