2014 was another modest year for new ascents. At the beginning of the year my aim was to reach 1500 Sims. This I achieved in April. The cost, however, was a knee injury, which dogged me until September. My problem is distance from the big hills, which means an all-out effort has to be made when on holiday. This puts a big strain on the joints when one gets older. In addition the soft wet ground in April was no help. Fortunately the knees have improved since September. This is possibly due to potions such as cod liver oil and coconut oil, but more probably due to taking things a bit easier.
My highlight was reaching my 1500th Sim on The Socach. This was followed by a few days on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, when in good weather but on wet ground I re-ascended Creach Bheinn and Fuar Bheinn, adding the various other Sims on these hills.
