A surprisingly good total was achieved for 2014. Had it not been for flooding and almost losing my car in Wensleydale during December, I would have exceeded forty new Marilyns.
It was May before my first sortie to Oban, followed by a second trip in June when region 19 was completed with a total of 16 summits. These varied from heather-bashing to forest-fighting. With only two Marilyns remaining on the Scottish mainland north of the central lowland belt, my next venture was to the delightful Ettrick hills. Then I went to Dumfries and Galloway in October to add a further 15 hills.
A funeral on Wirral gave me the chance of a wind-farm feast on Corse Hill and Common Hill, south of Glasgow. I did manage two ascents south of the border, not too arduous - Billinge Hill and Arnside Knott. Finally there was Lamberton Hill - almost an English Marilyn as only a short distance north of the border.
There are only 29 Marilyns remaining on the mainland, but I must try to get my last two Grahams, which have been outstanding for three years.
