I spent 16 weeks of 2014 abroad, much of the time walking on foreign hills, mainly in Spanish territory. While in the UK, most of the additions were also either abroad (well, Shropshire), where I was impressed with the steepness of Caer Caradoc, or overseas (well, the Outer Hebrides). The latter trip introduced me to west Lewis and the wild empty hills such as Mealaisbhal, and the remote Beinn Mhor in east Lewis. We crossed the non-topographical Lewis/Harris border to do the hills west of Clisham; Uisgnabhal Mor and Tiorga Mor. All these hills are done effectively from sea level and are, by and large, pathless to the tops, so they are hard going. We did not get the classic Hebridean blue weather that would have been the full reward. I left Oreval for next time, to get me back there.
