All my new 2014 Marilyns were in Scotland as I pursued my somewhat belated infatuation with the Highlands.
For a septuagenarian, the highlights were undoubtedly the biggies Ben Lui, Ben Cruachan, Braeriach, Cairn Toul, Sgurr Choinnich Mor and Aonach Beag. On this last hill I was delighted to meet the renowned Corbetteer, Mollie the collie, with her equally illustrious partner Anne in the course of her sixth round of the Munros.
The prize for least enjoyable hill was an evening struggle to the overgrown top of Newtyle Hill, a lot of effort for not very much, but this was more than made up for by a super day on Ben Mor Coigach and Sgurr an Fhidhleir which was a long-held ambition realised. Another Graham to excel was Carnan Cruithneachd in Kintail, a fine viewpoint and the only hill not done solo.
