We had a really good year in 2013 once again and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the new hills. We do not tend to blitz an area but nibble away gently, which gives a huge variety to the hills. Highlight of the year must be Ben Hiant, which although not up there with the big fellas is definitely a classic with grand views down Loch Sunart. Next day we climbed Druim na Sgriodain via its top of Sgurr na h'Eanchainne which again will remain with us in our memories for some time.
Much further north was Morven and what a huge lump it is in the surrounding landscape. Together with Smean we had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
South of the border also called, with our usual Lake District trip in autumn and finally doing Kinder Scout which had been on the to-do list for some time.
Special mention must be made of the September day when we joined Adrienne and Gordon Coventry on their 1000th Marilyn in the Luss hills. Weather not so grand but the bubbly made up for it.
What we did not achieve is quoted in the book as the easiest Marilyn of all, i.e. Bishop Wilton Wold. Passing by on a family visit down south in July we could see the group of trees which make up the summit but we could also see the field of very mature grain completely surrounding it. We spent some time walking round and round hoping to find tractor trails marking an approach, but alas they just were not there. Would definitely recommend a winter visit for this one.
