Baglogs:

Jim Fothergill (+100=1375)

I managed to increase my totals by three figures for the ninth year in a row, probably for the last time, up a hundred in 2012, all in Scotland including my penultimate Corbett Dun da Ghaoithe (Foinaven left) and 32 Grahams (25 left), bringing my total to 1375. My outstanding Welsh one is still Mynydd Enlli on Bardsey Island and my two outstanding English ones are Bishop Wilton Wold and Normanby Top - a 320 mile round trip for these two including the Hump and trig of Great Wold. Not that I am actively targeting Humps - I will include them if they make a round with outstanding Marilyns and fit in with my planned walks. However I have now at least got all my 1436 outstanding ones marked on Memory-Map, together with Marilyns, Outlying Wainwrights, Birketts and miscellaneous trigs so at least I can see where they are.

I had five trips in 2012, all unfortunately solo - seven nights at the excellent Comrie Croft in March, eight nights at the magnificent Loch Lomond hostel , sadly now closed, and Inveraray in April, ten nights at Inveraray and Campbeltown in May, six nights at Ariundle, Strontian, in June and six nights at Inveraray and Oban in September. I do like Inveraray hostel; there was a bat resident in the drying room.

Memorable days were:

On 29 September I was heading up a forest fire break en route to Carn Duchara when I noticed something shiny just in the trees. It turned out to be a deflated balloon with an attached message on a piece of cardboard which was from a five-year-old lad with a request to post it back to him. I was surprised to see that his address was in Preston, only ten miles from my home. As I often do the forty-mile bike route from home round the new Preston Guild Wheel and back, on my next outing I posted it through his door. His mum rang me later to say that he released it several months before from Arran, some fifty miles south, and I also had a short chat with the lad.

Plans for 2013 include Alan Holmes' trip to Shetland in May, finish the Corbetts on a trip to Durness/Tongue and maybe Helmsdale and Mull.
