Cellar Field:

Mat Webster, Leeds (+58=253)

Just passing the gatehouse, with the big house still a long way off. The winter of 2005/06 was spent trawling the archives to obtain my initial Marilyn total of 195, so there was plenty to go at in 2006. The year started with a camp at Wasdale and finished with an ascent of Pendle Hill in Lancashire. The main target was to finish the English 2000-foot hills (using the Nuttalls' list). This was achieved in early October on Symonds Knott (Scafell) after the first half of the year was spent ploughing through the northern Pennines. But what wonderful solitude. Trips to Ossian, Crianlarich, Killin, Cannich and Dundonnell added to Munro, Corbett, Graham and Marilyn tallies. The highlight was definitely a perfectly clear sunny day on An Teallach with the Guiseley old boys. Excellent overseas trips to Iceland and the Julian Alps of Slovenia took up holidays in the latter half of the year. Then disaster! Glandular fever struck and bagging was curtailed for over two months. A final Marilyn total of 58 for the year is a little below expectation, so I hope for a bumper 2007. GOML count nil.
