In the Corridor: Chris Watson, Wallasey (542)

My tally of Marilyns increased by 50 during 2005 although two of these were 'blasts from the past'. The promotion of Arnside Knott, which I had climbed in 1963, was one of these. The other was Sharp Haw, which it turns out I climbed with brother Tony in 1964. It looks as if it will be 2007 before I make it into the Hall, as a new house is going to take up a lot of time this year. My elder son Ian is on 550, but I can't catch the blighter up! A joint HoF entry is still a possibility, but his newly-arrived daughter may have other views on this.

Highlights of the year were the island trips: Bardsey and Ailsa Craig organised by Brent Lynam, Arran and Holy Island as part of our summer holiday. I also climbed my 150th English Marilyn (Shining Tor) and my 100th Welsh Marilyn (Yr Eifl). The low point was the previously-reported writing off of my car after my 500th Marilyn in February. Unfortunately, I now have to drive for two hours to get to a new Marilyn from any of my bases. As the crow flies, it's 90km from Wolverhampton or New Brighton and 75km from Tayport before I can put my boots on. Time to move the caravan perhaps?
