2003 was the year I struggled in vain to complete the Corbetts but nevertheless managed to reach 200. With a tally of 30 Corbetts and only four sub-2000ft Scottish Marilyns (will somebody please invent a name for these) my cull is a shade one-sided. Paradoxically the highlight of the year was a three-day jaunt to Barra to shake off the Corbett millstone and get to grips with some magical island summits. A trip to Mingulay in azure skies and flat calm seas was made even more memorable by skua attacks and meeting up with Julie Brooks, an artist who lived in a cave on the west coast of Jura for six months. The sight of Mingulay Bay burning gold in the evening sun is still vivid. Looking forward to 2004 and hopefully a Corbett completion - then I can really get my teeth into Sub2KSMs. Mind you, the Corbett Tops look an inviting bunch...
